Drought, Fire, Rain, Flood. Do you think grocery prices are high now?
Drought in the West and Midwest is pushing ranchers to sell off a big percentage of their herds. Record low water levels on the Colorado are going to crimp irrigation water to farmers. It may also crimp electrical supply. Flooding and erratic weather in the South and Southeast will also have an impact on grocery prices. And the hurricane season is just getting underway. Yes, you can buy local and grow your own - as long as your area is not affected! Don't count too much on that.
Importing food might help, but much of South America is also suffering from drought.
The bottom line is that we had better expect that food prices will continue to rise and supply to shrink. Low income folks, as usual, will be hurt the most.
Housing is already tapering off as prices are far too high to be affordable and lumber is in short supply. The rent moratorium is coming to an end and back rents will come due. The army of the homeless will soon grow huge.
The present "boom" will come to an end as the free money handed out by government is exhausted, an increasing amount of it used for paying for necessities. I expect by October we will be facing economic collapse. Expect increasing saber rattling and military actions to avert attention from economic problems. Then there is the issue of Covid-19. Are we really getting ahead of it or will it resurface in the Fall when people retreat indoors? More lock-downs will be a bullet to the head for the economy and for social peace.
